there are 4 main files:
COLOR_raw.ps
COLOR_raw.jpg
COLOR_raw.tif >>> these files are each just raw color
images of the press release image
there are NO graphics, and the quality
is HIGH for all formats.
COLOR_simple.ps
COLOR_simple.jpg >>> here we have added the the moon's orbit
as a result of this added graphic the
postscript file (.ps) has HIGH image
quality but the .jpg (JPEG) is of lower
(but still OK) quality.
COLOR_labels.ps
COLOR_labels.jpg >>> here we added TEXT to the figure. The
postscript quality is HIGH. The JPEG
quality is lower.
COLOR_labels_caption.ps >>> here we have added the figure caption
as well. Quality is HIGH.
discovery.jpg >>> are the "raw" (i.e. not image-processed)
discovery.ps images from which the discovery was made
on Nov 1 1998. Shows primary asteroid,
with satellite (white blob to upper left
at about 10:30 position)
large_scale.gif (gif is image only, no caption)
large_scale.ps >>> this is a larger scale view from which the
"COLOR" blowups above is taken -- mostly
useful as an artistic view of the data --
the large "cross" is an optical artifact
of the telescope
----------------------------------------------------------------
In the "movie" subdirectory:
the files from Nov1 to Nov10_color.jpg are color images of each of the
individual nights. Quality is HIGH. (no text or graphics are included)
